acat and I'm ready to work it out. Giving thanks, love, and respect to the architects of my world.

First of all, big ups to Soul Brother #2, for being the only one to show love on the mic check recently. Probably because he and I share 1/32 of a brain and we have the same impeccable tastes.

Second of all, thanks to East Coast Office for letting me crash at the pad this weekend. That's right above the John Jovino gun shop on Grand and Mulberry in Little Italy for those not in the know.

Third of all, thanks to Kero-One for providing the background music as I write this blog and more importantly creating the all-important warmth on the rhodes and bass. Rap-hand coordination at it's finest.

Thanks to all the Mexicans in L.A. 500,000 strong! !Viva la Raza!

And speaking of Latino/as, thanks to Haydee Diaz, owner of the apartment I'm staying in San Juan, Puerto Rico next week.

Can't forget my man, Anthony Michael Hall, who started the whole "son" craze…Not sure what I mean? Youtube it.

To the Jackson 5, and their wild B-Boy Jam, It’s Great to Be Here.

To Zicam, Airborne, and Dayquil for hopefully wiping the symptoms of the cold I feel coming on. No fun right before a vacation.

To homegirl who rented me the Dodge Neon while the Envoy was in the shop, my god were you just some splendiferous eye candy. I think I love you.

To whoever is letting me jack the linksys connection, this post would not be possible without you.

To Billy Zane’s character in Titanic…prototypical asshole. Sho nuff.

To the Commodores, Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh! I feel sanctified!

To Easy Moe Bee, the more I listen to you…the more I recognize your brilliance. One of the only producers to work with Pac and Target Sweater Big. Is it really just the flava that be cloggin your ears?

To Russel Martin, Dioner Navarro, Jeff Kent, Raphael Furcal, Bill Mueller, Jose Cruz Jr., J.D. Drew, and Kenny Lofton, Derek Lowe, and Eric Gagne. How excited am I for opening day???? NL WESSSSSSSST!

To the Canon Elph SD450, oh you are a beautiful feat of engineering.

To andycat.blogspot.com – three years strong.

And thanks to all my fellow educators out there, rest up and come back strong!

Youtube is fresh.

Man, when J. Lo. jacked the beat...I wanted to tear my Pioneer MP3 player out the BLAZIN toss it through the windshield.

Undoubtedly one of the best beats of the mid nineties, I remember hearing Craig Mack's flava in ya ear on 92.3 while rollin in the AstroVan junior year in high school.

And the video for remix??? Crazydumbhot.

Simple, hypnotic, black and white. Maybe not the best work from Hype Williams, but definitely my favorite.

Heads talk about Primo and Dre being the illest producer.

I wonder why Easy Mo Bee never gets love.

Invisible bullies like the gooch.

Female rappers bug. Except of course Lauryn, and Bahamadia.

Breaks out analogies
like pollen do allergies
got the vocab like the Fugees
to collect gees
top Bill like Bellamy
shocking hardcore heads
like electricity
cuts come complimentary of disc jockey Sean-Ski
yo vocally BAHAMA-D be
easy like Moe-Bee
raps react radio act like DJ Ran and Colby
to the Roots like Malik B.
flows pose as noise reduction on MCs like dolby
down by law like felonies
catchy like T-B
Essential to the Elements like Ceceley
with Wordplay

What ever happened to the female rap group?

J.J. Fad? Word?

You know I'm lazy to blog when I just copy and paste lyrics I found off the Internet.

And speaking of which, at the beginning of Tribe's Electric Relaxtion, dude says...

Relax yourself girl, please set-tle down.

I always thought he said,

Relax yourself girl, pi-ece of clam.

Big Smooth

SAM PERKINS APPRECIATION POST

Off season acquisition for the 1990 Lakers included, Power Foward Sam Perkins formerly of the Mavs as well as shooting guard/ patented turnaround jumper from the baseline Terry Teagle formerly from GS.

It wasn't soon after Sam was signed that he took over AC Green's spot in the starting lineup. The 90-91 Lakers were just...wow. Byron, Magic, Sam, Worthy, and Vlade. And with Coop, AC, Mychael Thompson, rookie Elden Campbell, and Teagle off the bench -- they were deep. Too bad MJ took it too another level that year in the finals.

Smokey Lamar has nothing on Sam. Sam always looked liked he showed up to the games stoned out of his mind. I mean...camping out at the three point line, shooting free throws with eyes half way shut, and walking back to the bench with a slow loping stride all with his tongue hanging outside of his mouth the entire time.

And as much as Jerry West is a master executive, traded him for Double Zero Benoit Benjamin and unproven rookie out of Pepperdine Doug Christie was one of his worst mistakes. Sam went on to have quality years with Seattle and Indiana.

My Laker knowledge is impeccable!

I truly believe that you can not press the button at a cross walk only once.

It needs to be pressed multiple times in order for the light to turn green quicker.

Revolutionary T.O.

ANDYDOAN1: How do you feel about Dallas signing TO?
MdotCostello: I think TO is a good move for the cowboys prob makes them favorites in the NFC. I dont think ill be a big TO fan anytime soon. There are some guys i admire for their work ethic, some for their ability to come thru in the clutch, some for their god given talent, others for the fact that they show up and battle with tremendous heart every single day. I dont admire TO, i think he is of the god given talent variety who has worked hard to get to this point in his career, but from my perspective he has been so selfish and taken so much for granted over the last couple years that I just dont see myself 'liking' him. Football is a business and the object is to win, so if TO can get bill and jerry to another superbowl then its a good move.

And I admire Costello for his depth and breadth of understanding.

There was a transformer named Punch-Counterpunch. He was a double agent spy who worked as an autobot and could then change into a decepticon by well, changing his sticker, I guess. Punch the autobot maintained a cool, stoic demeanor but when he turned into CounterPunch the decepticon, his character became this bitchy, whiny, complaining no-good robot.

It didn't make a whole lot of sense, and it was a fine line, but in a world where I TURN INTO CAR AND FIGHT YOU WHO TURN INTO PLANE, Punch-Counterpunch was complex MF'er.

Robots with tortured souls make me smile.

I ask myself what is important to a child, and more specifically an adolescent lacking identity.

The only thing on my mind at 14 was Super Mario Kart and the Lakers.

(94-95 Lakers Starting 5. Nick Van Exel, Eddie Jones, Cedric Ceballos, Elden Campbell, Vlade. OMG. The illest!)

I have 5 computers in the back of my classroom and sometimes my lessons will end a bit early. I let my students use those same computers during this time.

all five are logged on to myspace.

So why is it so popular amongst today's teens?

Probably the same reason why a bedroom is so important to them at that same age.

Complete ownership.

You don't have much in your possession at that age, but you do have two things --

This is MY bedroom.
This is MY myspace page.

Ownership manifests control, and a child likes to have that control. He has teachers, parents, older siblings, aunts, uncles, and friends telling how to act and behave.

At that age, 90% of your life is beyond your control. To have this type of freedom to create and explore must undoubetedly feels liberating to them.

Whatever I create in this space is a reflection of who I am.

Nothing wrong with that, expression is necessary for those searching.

I'd personally find it more intriguing if those same students kept a blog.

Went to the Pac-10 Championship yesterday.

So who do you think Magic is pointing at?

Kurt Rambis in the post.

Man, don't you know anything about basketball! They're running a break right now!

My bad, Byron Scott on the Wing.

Nice try.

Well, who's he pointing at then?

The breezy in the stand he's trying to have sex with after the game!

True. True.

---------------------------------------------------

Is it the beat or the steez?????

Man, I can't comprehend.

Stage names that end with "one" always have my pound.

KRS-One
ANDYDOAN1
Ronnoc-One
Tracy McGrady 1.

There was a time I hung out with DJ's. I asked them to give me a stage name.

I became Crate Unloader One.

(At least I never had to stand in line at Sky Sushi.)

So no surprise, I'm diggin this one.

Too Short? Nope.
E-40? Nah.
Rappin 4-Tay? Please.

But Mac Dre?
That's right. He has his own bobblehead!
Ill.

Truly holds down the bay.
R.I.P.

(I would probably crap my pants if they came out with a Shock G version.)

Reasons to fear Canada:

The bullwinkle mountie, Dudley Do Right. "I'll save you!"
One of its provinces is completely French, and they don't seem to mind.
Canadian slugger, Jason Raymond Bay.

(I like how "Canadian" and "Slugger" roll off the tongue.)

The WBC makes me happy.

You can find me rockin the
One skinny dude: faceoffs, time killing.
Three fat dudes: fierce slap shot, bruising forechecks.

Oh yeah, keep in mind to --
1. Hustle hard after the puck.
2. Angle intelligently.
3. Finish your check.

Best thing about Hee-Seop:
The Chant.

Best thing about Yao:
Holds it down on the dancefloor.

Best thing about D-money Ng:
No vowels in his last name.

Best thing about Dat:
Vietnamese.

Best thing about this past weekend:
JW's voicemail -- "We need grilled cheese, and we need you!"

Dat Nguyen retired. You'll be missed, brother.

To my b-boy brothers suffering from floor burn, bust a headspin to this one.

Mr. Doan, “Have you heard that song, I’m in love with a stripper?”

Uhh, yes. (as I cringe with fright at the conversation that’s about to ensue.)

Do you like it?

No.

Why not?

Not hardcore enough.

Huh?

I stay hardcore.

What for?

I’m not sure.

(HAR HAR! – like Jar Jar Binks.)

Nowadays hip hop’s a lost cause, so I tell myself.

And I would tell you why,

No sense it overanalyzing the bullshit, music my kids hear on the radio everyday.

(Turn off your radio.)

Instead I’ll endorse what I truly enjoy…and guide my students into what I believe to be the right direction.

Dave Chappelle, once Comedy Central’s darling, hits the theaters with a concert he says, “I’ve always wanted to see.”

Top 5 moments which come to my head, in no particularly order.

1.) Kamal’s key’s backing up Kanye as he busts, “Get’em high.”
2.) Common – as a hype man?!?!?!?!
3.) Not the Fugees performing Killing Them Softly at the end of the movie, but rather Wyclef and Lauryn Hill blessing the mic when they performed Nappy Heads.
4.) Seeing Mos Def play the drums.
5.) Chappelle flashing “the most revolutionary shoe ever” with the fist raised high on the tongue.

Good music will take you to another place. Good movies will do the same. So it’s no surprise that I was in complete glee throughout the two hour documentary. Chappelle is obviously a fan of rap music with a message, which says something about his cool genius (and mine as well). Hopefully more 15 year olds will see this movie and start asking me questions about these artists who they never knew existed.

Nothing makes me happier than when the Lakers beat our friendly neighbors to the North.

I want to buy Sergio Mendes's Timeless.

And I also want to see Chappelles Block Pary.

Good.

I wrote something.

Now Andy Katz is not the first thing you see anymore.
